Sketch Afternoon Tea

This post is seriously overdue, back in April I finally got to visit Sketch for Afternoon Tea in the gallery room with my two closest friends Emily & Meredith. As soon as I saw an image of the powder pink room on instagram, I just knew that I had to see it for myself.

David Shrigley was commissioned as part of a long term artists conceived restaurant project within the gallery room. This followed the huge success of Martin Creed’s restaurant commission back in 2012. Shrigley’s dark humorous artwork covers the walls. Catching glimpses of different pieces throughout the afternoon really had us all in fits of giggles. The restaurant decor was curated alongside designer India Mahdavi, her interior creations are beyond incredible!

The afternoon tea was amazing! We even had pink champagne to accompany it, when you’re in the powder pink palace how could you not?! There was a huge variety of teas to choose from, I chose vanilla and Emily & Meredith both had Ceylon & Rose. Both were lovely, I liked that you could add milk to the vanilla tea and that the vanilla itself wasn't too fragrant.

Then a delicious assortment of sandwiches arrived. There were classics like cucumber and cream cheese along with coronation chicken and old favourites with added new twists; egg mayonnaise with a single quails egg and caviar atop the finger sandwich, and a comte cheese panini. They were all delicious!! Then for sweet treats, my fav from the second tier was the choux pistachio ball, I could have eaten an entire box full! The top tier had a coffee sponge and miniature pavlova, also scrumptiously good! But that wasn't all, we were also brought out scones with cream and jam along with mini lemon meringues and marshmallows. And to finish off, a choice between rhubarb and custard or salted caramel chocolate. I opted for rhubarb and custard, intrigued by the flavour.

Sketch’s toilets are unlike anywhere else. A colourful ceiling with a series of futuristic space like pods. You feel like you’ve been transported to another world after being in pink paradise.

We all had such a fantastic time, a very decadent but perfect girlie afternoon. After looking back through these photos months later I definitely want to rebook and go have another entirely magical afternoon. A taste of the high life!!
